Obvious answer for car community is OppositeLock, but some of us are members of a model specific community for various resources and information.

I ask because I’ve been struggling with being involved in the Camaro community. Some nice people but car enthusiasts they are not. I’ve seen some of the most awful questions/answers pertaining to cars ever since I took a voyage on the SS Camaro (heh heh) in January.

Before that I was very active in the ST community. They were smart and appreciative of all cars, making for some great, friendly conversations. Purists who just love driving. Of course each community has its troll, or someone who just can’t live with the fact that there were other cars better than their own but the positive members far outweighed the negative ones.

I’m also going to throw the 350Z Nismo community out there. I have a friend who’s an owner of one and has said the people in his online community are some of the nicest/helpful people out there. He’s also a member of a general 350Z group which is basically a dumpster fire.

So tell me your favorite.

Example of something that made me facepalm:

This is highly regional, really. I personally disagree with your assessment of the ST community, but I’ve also been kicked off of a regional page (for complaining about a picture of someone’s speedometer at 145+ mph... on the street). Lots of street-racer wannabes and hard-parkers, at least locally. Other places aren’t nearly so bad.

Having said that - you’ll get it in any community. Look at how diverse the Miata community is. There’s the hardcore Spec Miata guys, who tend to look down on the autocross guys, who tend to look down on the drifters, who tend to look down on the hard-parkers. Each of those is their own separate community, with good reason.

I like the British car community a lot, but that’s because most people are older, have a sense of humor, and don’t take it too seriously. You really can’t when there’s a good chance someone is going to break down on the way. There’s a lot of knowledge, and people are always willing to share.

Oh, and the Lada Niva community.

The ST community has definitely taken a turn for the worse as they’ve gotten more affordable used, that’s something I did notice. Early on though it didn’t seem like that.

But my regional ST group is amazing! I'm still active in it even though I don't have an ST anymore basically because I've become friends with everyone on there.

I’m looking into Spec Miata for next year based on the people I know who run it. Was hoping to do some TT in my car but it’ll be classified in TT1 which really, really sucks. But it was never going to be my race car, and since I’m not doing Formula Vee anymore I need something to fill the void, like the Spec Miatas.

Anything that could be a poser car group is going to be hit and miss at best. Camaro, Mustang, M Series BMW and so on. I’d say anything which is for cars that are outcasts are probably the best.

350Z is great for plenty of things, but it’s never going to be a status symbol, therefore the only people there are those who really appreciate it for what it is.

The Fiesta ST is a brilliant thing to drive, but in every other way it’s just a Fiesta. Which to anyone on the outside who may have been in an ordinary one means it just feels cheap and crappy. Only someone interested in a fun car will have one or go anywhere near the forums.

My own personal neck of the woods, canada355/355nation/coloradofans, consists of people who genuinely enjoy something so many have beat up. Most people on there are very helpful as a result of being so in tune with their trucks.

Miata forums I imagine would be similar, because the car has no appeal to anyone but an enthusiast. And so on.

I know the feeling, I still hang with a lot of the 86 crowd even though I’ve gotten rid of my BRZ. That’s as much of a mixed bag as the ST community though.

Also I’d mention that LS1howto is probably the cream of anything associated with the Camaro (or anything else with GM V8's). Because the Camaro poser doesn’t go there. They are not interested in in-depth engine mods for the most part. It doesn’t show on the outside.

The Gran Torino community, small and close but super friendly. Will help you get body parts for your car if need be because no one makes after market ones hardly. Also they are very Ford car savvy people because we own one of the few odd ball/rare/hard to find Fords. Like there are members of the community that do transportation of parts all across the county for you from member to member.

I haven't been in the general forum area for awhile, mostly in the tech and suspension area. But even those I'm hardly on. With it being a new generation there's not much for info/aftermarket. I'm done with my engine performance and looking into suspension next but that'll be awhile yet. The wheel section is great if you love Z/28 reps! Pretty sure that's all that's going on these right now as far as wheels go.

That would be awesome. When my mom was in the hospital having my brother in 1982 my dad went and bought a 1981 Prelude. Quickly learned you don't go and buy a car while your wife is in labor with their first kid, lol.

I had been anticipating this car for a long time, couldn’t be happier with it!

And I've done a bit of that when it comes to the suspension since I went with magnetic ride. I didn't want to do a lot of suspension work on this car since I just got out of something with coilovers and whatnot. After looking underneath the car I see no need for anything, just some sticky tires and lighter wheels since the stock ones weigh over 30lbs.

I second this. I haven’t found another group of people as helpful, diverse, and fun to be around as the Porsche community. The ST communities have gone downhill since they’ve become more available and common with bros, boy-racers, and the lot.

Sucks you have had bad experiences with the Camaro community, but from my experience with both the online Camaro community and local Camaro clubs is that it really depends on the generation in terms of the nice person to a hole ratio. The 5th and 6th gens are the worst due to people who are just buying the car because it’s popular and really have clue about cars but they think they know it all. From 4th gen on back it’s mostly a lot of great people that are helpful and friendly. I avoid 5th gen pages even though I own one and tend to stick to my first gen specific pages.

Hope you have better experiences with other Camaro owners and If you have question I’ll help to best I can because I pretty much eat, sleep, breath Camaro

Grass Roots Motorsports forum is extremely nice and knowledgeable. The GTO forums used to be really awesome until a few years ago, because of the FPFQ and grouchy members. The SS sedan group are pretty nice and chill with an older crowd. I have heard nightmare stories about Camaro5.

The Chevy/GMC truck and SUV community is pretty cool. They’re pretty helpful forum wise. The BMW board can be OK, e38 owners are good with replies and are the only seven series board that actually replies to posts. The 3 series section isn’t that pleasant though.

I think that guy got banned or just left. It is a pretty small group and is more civil than the facebook groups.

Yep. There’s a guy on the Camaro6 forum that insists his V6 is better than the SS because it’s lighter, won a Ward’s award (but so did the LT1 when it was introduced in the Corvette), and has gone so far to say the V6 is the best handling.

Love that Hertz FoST and FiST in the picture.

Also the dutch ford focus forum is my favourite. Even tough I didn’t own a Focus but my father did, I was welcomed there nicely, even after buying a Renault Twingo they still liked my choice and respected it. They even had a section where (former) Focus drivers could show off their cars of other brands.

The more a car or brand appeals to a purely specialty or niche audience, the more enthusiastic, selfless and helpful the population is.

On the other side, the more aspirational appeal a car or brand has, the more hard-parkers, douches and alpha personalities you will see on that specific forum. You may even have guys who flaunt cars they don’t actually have. This goes all the way up to the exotic car levels—did you see that guy with the Koenigsegg on Instagram that got called out by Koenigsegg themselves?

It’s just the nature of these toys. For the most part, you will see some douchebaggery and posturing on any car forum.

I would say it’s simply base model vs higher trim... The base 2.2 and 2.4 base Cobalts can cause issues, while the 2.0 SS are generally more sane.
